The Judicators Project – a work in progress –

Some of you may know, remember, that I have been working away on a small project called “The Judicators”.

Since its first conception it has taken on a life of its own. More and more characters withe their own back story have been added since the very first sneak preview seen here…

If you type “Judicators” into the search thingo on my page you’ll find all the related posts for the project. I’ve got to be honest I am thoroughly and whole heartedly enjoying this project. In a hobby world of fantasy, monsters, Warriors, war machines, amazing sculpts, imagination, talented converters and painters I feel this project has a certain uniqueness to it. It’s a little 40k a little Mordheim a little… I dunno… A little ImperialRebelOrk-ish I guess haha.

As I’m so excited about the project and the progress, I thought I’d share a little of what I’ve achieved over the last couple of months.

First up – “The Courthouse”

To date this is my favourite piece of terrain that I’ve created. I really took my time with this one. I even drew up some rough designs of what I wanted. I watched a couple of youtubes and did some experimenting.

For the Judicators fluff, I thought, what better place to pass a judgement or verdict than a ruined old courthouse that looks just as grim as the characters who use it. Adding the gallows was an after thought as the original plan was to do a separate terrain piece called “The Gallows” haha. I think the attached gallows gives the courthouse a bit more understanding of what it is and what it is used for. The noose was a bugger to get right. Even now I’m not 100% happy with it but at least it looks like a noose.

As you might be able to tell I used warhammer fantasy bases for the internal floor tiles. They turned out better than I hoped, especially after I added the moss into the grout lines.

I was also quite pleased with the shingles. I cut these out from an empty cereal box. All different sizes and not perfectly square.

The clock on the front of the Courthouse was an old watch my wife didn’t want anymore (I promise I didn’t steal it). I stripped it back, removed the casing etc and then scratched it up a bit before giving it a mouldy, oxidised look.

I will be adding a lectern to the wooden floor section of the courthouse. Something for the Judge to bang with his gavel hehe.

Now the completed Undertaker (incorrectly called the Caretaker in his original post). A very grim chap who’s job it is to clean and embalm the bodies of the executed and prepare them for burial, cremation, decoration or, in some macabre scenarios, to be eaten.

This particular undertaker is 8th generation and is a mute. His tongue was severed from his mouth by a coven of witches who used it for one of their wicked potions. Little did they know that this Undertaker knew the Judge.

The Undertaker works tirelessly on through night and day as the piles of endless bodies lay in wait for his attention. He is meticulous in his work. He is morbidly fascinated by death and all that comes with it from the rank and vile aromas to the gut churning decay. He is feared by many due to his grotesque appearance and the elongated fingers on his left hand. It is said that if the Undertaker points at you with one of his long digits you are marked for death.

The only thing I need to add is some writing, in blood, to his parchment.
