– Kreleus Drach –
Drach was found by Inquisitor Malice wondering the tunnels of an Underhive. He was naked, bloody and disillusioned. Malice took pity on the old fool and threw a blanket over him. At that very moment Kreleus Drach looked deep into Malice’s eyes, his soul and saw him for what he was. A good man. Equally, Malice felt the long stare and he instantly sensed a feeling of reassurance. He knew at once that the crazy man he had just rescued from certain death was a seer of all things. Malice felt compelled, almost destined to take the man under his wing. To help him regain his strength.
It didn’t take long before Drach was fighting fit but could not recall any of his past. He quickly became Malice’s confidante, and even though he was certainly no warrior by any stretch of the word he would become Inquisitor Malice’s greatest ally. Drach had the ability to see things no others could. He aided Malice in his decision making and tactics. He also helped the rest of the Retinue personally and professionally. He became, almost, like a mascot and most of the men would not venture into battle without Drach with them. Drach also acted as medic and seemed to have a natural flare for medicine and remedies.
Due to his age and poor immune system he has to wear an oxy mask 24 hours a day so therefor his speech sounds raspy and mechanical but his tone is gentle. He is very much liked and respected by the entire Retinue and is well favoured by Malice.

Fairly simple and straight forward paint job but I like the earthy tones. he blends in well with his surroundings. His low-key attire suits his quiet nature.

The conversion was a simple one. I changed the upper section of the staff, gave him a different head and added a hand and pistol. I wanted it to look like he kept the gun well hidden within his earthy cloaks, only drawing it out when absolutely necessary.

I’m quite happy with the staff. It looks like it could be wielded as a weapon.

It was important to capture the right skin tone. I wanted it to look both old and a little sickly.

I kept the original base but mounted it on cork board. As with each character for this Retinue I wanted a mini-diorama for them to be perched on.

The Head choice was important as I wanted to convey his old age and the need for assistance with breathing.

I didn’t add any effects to the photos this time as the lighting was, luckily, just right.

Kreleus Drach, the Psyker is the last addition to the retinue/warband for the Chapel Project. I still have plenty of NPC’s to paint up though so, please, stay tuned.
In my next post I will do a re-cap of all the characters from the Retinue/Warband and will, of course, include the customary group shot(s).
Cheers

Nice one! What have you used to make the top of the staff, I’m not recognising the bits?

Errrmmmm… let me try to recall. My old brain isn’t what it used to be. Well a skull haha. The end/butt of a Kroot rifle and I really can’t remember what that big spiked arc is from. It was in my miscellaneous bits box. Worked well though I think.

Really? Here I was thinking he was a bit too simple but thanks man.

Yeah, simple is fine. It’s the overall effect that’s important. Too complex can become too busy.

Brilliant mate, one of your best – you say he’s simple, but I would say this is a really elegant conversion & paint job… Less is sometimes more and all that 🙂

Thanks man. Yeah true. I see so many elaborate and wonderful conversions out there that i often think mine are a bit too simplistic. Thanks for the confidence boost mate.
