The Disciples of Solaris Mithras – Part 1

Dear oh dear oh dear… I am starting my six billion and twelth project hahahahahahahahsgssgshgdjgsdjyegfjkfhwekrfgehrkgj……………………………………………………………………………………………………….. The gibberish indictaes my fall into madness and I don’t mean the band, although they were a great band.

Those of you that, bravely, try and keep up with my manic, chaotic, shotgun approach to my hooby may remember projects like The Judicators, The Chapel, Outgard even AOS28 well this new project kinda/sorta incorporates all those projects and sticks them in one big collection or amry. All in the one world, of my own creation, called Finem Mortourum.

Are you lost?

I don’t blame you haha.

Any-Who…

This army are devoted disciples of a lost and ancient God/Religion called Solaris Mithras.

I got the idea here –

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mithraism

Fascinating stuff.

I like the cult-ish vibe.

The Disciples of Solaris Mithras are shrouded in mystery and no one can join this army/cult you must be born into it.

With conversions I really, REALLY love blending 40k with fantasy or AOS. There’s something about it that I can’t quite put my finger on but it sort of feels like the epitome of the whole hobby for me. I love the futrure grimm just as much as the old fantasy grimm so why not combine them.

Instead of having a whole bunch of random but similarly linked projects I thought it’d make it simplar to put them all under one banner.

Needless to say this project is, already, huge and will only get bigger. Sigh… Yes I’m a glutton for punishment but hey I love it at the same time.

If you want to see what I’ve done so far simply type Outgard, The Chapel, The Judicators and AOS28 into the little search engine thing on my home page.

Ok, time for me to shut up a bit and get on with what I’ve produced this evening.

My wife is on night shift so this creates the perfect time for me to play with my toys… errr… I mean be artistic and creative. I made a total of 18 models in 2.5 hours. I was on a bloody roll.

First up is an elite unit of assasin type commandos.

The Malevolent Seven

(Yes I’m a fan of The Magnificent Seven, both Yul Brynner and Denzel Washington movies. Wouldn’t mind seeing The Seven Samurai too)

Next we have a couple of characters. The first one reminds me of Lobot from Empire Strikes Back. If you don’t know who I’m referring to remind me why we are frfiends again? Haha. Just jokes, relax but seriously go look him up.

I have to say that the inspiration behind this guy was from Mark AKA Heresy Of Us. Take a look at his magnificent “Formsworth” here –

Formsworth

The inspiration for the next chap is quite a funny but, maybe, boring story but here goes.

I wanted to make a servitor and was looking for a good head for him when I laid eyes on the perfect one. I’d never seen it before, not only in my own collection but anywhere EVER! Then I realised I was looking at it from behind and upside down. It just seemed to work for me so I went with it. So the head on this guy is upside down and back to front. I could almost turn it into one of those memes “When you see it you’ll shit a brick”.

Haha a bit weird bit pulpy sci-fi but I like it.

Hang on I’m bleeding… Literally bleeding from my leg. I’ll just get a tissue.

I’m back. I must have scratched myself at work today without realising. I was scratching my leg, felt wetness and there it was… The old crimson covering my fingers. Luckily I’m ok with blood. I’ve had to be over the years haha but that’s another story. No I’m not a butcher or murderer. Sleep well.

WAIT… THERES MORE!!!!!

Some troops.

Starting with a big fella.

This next guy is my favourite trooper. He could almost be a bounty hunter or something. Love his weapon!!

I hope you enjoyed this post as much as I enjoyed putting it together.

Tomorrow night my wife is on night shift again but this time I’ll be painting some more Green Dragoons and will post what I achieve.

Yours bloodily

  1. You missed one of the most famous Heavily-Draws-Inspiration-From-Seven-Samurai movies in there. I’d hope you’ve seen it if you’re referencing Lobot..
I like your “big fella” up there. Reminds me a lot of some of the better Bauhaus stuff from WarZone.

  2. Great work as always IRO but it was your scratch at work which inspires my comment. My immediate thought was I hope he has had a Tetanus jab which then made me think what a cool name Tetanus is. Then I got on a role and thought what about Thyroxine, Warfarin, Amlodopine (sounds more female that one), Pancretin, Ramipril … the list goes on. OK, so it’s a bit off the wall but hey it’s also thinking outside the box!

    1. Haha they work for me. As you’ve seen I do like to name a lot of my models. For me, it helps bring them to life more and gives them a lot of character. Sometimes i think of a name first and imagine what they’d look like then build him/her. Most times I build the mini organically and then add the name and/or story.

  3. Great work- I can see what you mean about the Lobot likeness. I love the figures with the volley guns, I’d jump at the chance to fire one….

Can’t wait to see what they look like with some paint on.

    Cheers,

    Pete.

  4. Well, somebody was certainly busy! πŸ˜› Kudos to you for accomplishing so much in such a short time frame.
These look great. That’s funny about the upside down head working out so well. Perspective can be an interesting thing, for sure. πŸ™‚
