Womens History Month 2018 – One very amazing woman and some Bad Girls.

Last month a lovely blogger/book reviewer/baker extraudinare/metal chick called Cupcakesandmachetes asked if I wanted to join in on a blog event all about celebrating the ladies for Womens History Month for 2018.

After having fun with Alex’s FEMbruary challenge and also being a big fan of women, err not in a creepy way, it was a no brainer and I jumped on board.

HOWEVER this month has been a little, hmm what’s the word…? Beginning with F???? Hmmmmmm?

Oh Yes… FLABBERGASTING but that’s another story.

So, it has taken me a little longer than expected to deliver but here we are, with still, plenty left of the month to go.

The world was and is full of good girls/women who have done amazing and wonderful things and I’ve already read quite a few posts about some remarkable women but in my post I want to talk about one particular woman.

My Mum.

Once in a blue moon someone is born who is remarkable. My Mum was, literally, born when a blue moon was visible in the London one cold March night.

Jennifer (Jenny) was the first daughter to be born into, what would become, a family of six living in a small flat in London just beside HM Prsion Wormwood Scrubs, sounds like something out of a Charles Dickens Story. As a child she played outdoors using her imagination constantly. She’d follow her two older brothers around and get up to a bit of mischief here and there. She annoyed her brothers a lot of the time and would fight with them often, especially Jon. However, her brothers were extremely protective of her. She was very close with her mum and adored her Dad who was a real mans man and didn’t show too much affection but that’s what Dad’s were like back then. He worked hard and put food on their table.

When the family moved away from London Mum hated it and, one day, skived off school to catch the bus and go back “home” to London.

She was young when she first met my Dad and he was only a bit older than her. He was dating her mate and her mate told him that if he wanted to kiss her goodbye that he had to kiss Jenny goodbye too, so, he did. Smooth. It wasn’t long before Dad started taking more notice of Jenny.

They started a family and were married as teenagers. Dad jumped from job to job but always worked hard and mum doted on her new baby daughter. Mum was so paranoid that people would judge her for being a young mum that she kept my sister and all her things spotlessly clean. She loved being a mum and a wife. Needless to say they had their fair share of ups and downs in the start but there was love there, maybe at first it was puppy love but it soon grew into a very strong, loyal, devoted and deep love and bond.

Mum and Dad had another little girl and then five or six years later they had me.

Mum wanted a blonde haired, brown eyed boy and that’s exactly what she got. I was named “Luke” after a show called Luke’s Kingdom. I think Mum fancied the main star haha.

I was a mummys boy right from the start.

Mum worked hard, incredibly hard to make sure my sisters and me always got what we needed, maybe not what we always wanted but this only helped us appreciate everything we had. We were never spoilt but we never felt like we missed out on anything. Mum did all sorts of work from wiping the tops of oil bottles to making gun holsters for the police. What she excelled at though was sewing and creating things out of all types of fabrics. She made my sisters wedding dress and she made miniature clothes for bears as well pants and jumpers for me.

Even though she worked hard and sometimes long into the night she was always there for me. She’d play Rambo with me, help me build little battle grounds in old paint trays for my soldiers, always show interest in everything I did like writing incredibly gory horror stories. She’d smile and just say “You’ve got a good imagination”.

She was always the soft place for me to fall. She never nagged me like some of my mates mums nagged them. In fact she was probably too soft in some ways.

I remember once, probably only once, asking her to show me how to do the clothes washing. She started showing me how the washing machine works and then stopped and said, “It’s alright, it’s easier if I just do it all.” Surprisingly, I didn’t argue haha.

Mum is a sensitive lady and it’s where I get my sensitive side from. She, very gently over the years, has taught me to be kind, gentle, to be compassionate, to listen and to help others.

Mum is also a very strong woman and has become stronger as she got older. She’s not afraid to voice her opinion but is also very open to other opinions and ideas. She doesn’t have a temper but I would advise not upsetting her family.

My Mum is an absolute legend and has played a very vital role in helping shape me into the man I am today.

I’m proud to say that Mum and Dad are still very much in love nearly fifty years later and that I am still a mummys boy.

 

Now onto some Bad Girls…

I’ve gone nuts with my new miniature project. “The Good The Bad and The Ugly.”

There are, already made, three factions i.e Good, Bad, Ugly but more on them in another post coming, hopefully, before the month is over.

For now though, here are four ladies who are a part of the BAD faction.

Let’s start with Jade Magenta Diablo:

Jade is a wild warrior Princess who exudes charisma and femininity but is as tough as Coffin Nails.

She loves pink and a bit of bling but she can also gut a man without breaking a nail.

She can be soft and nurturing but if you double cross her she will put a dozen bullets in your sorry arse before you can blink.

Her hair was hard to make. It consists of several off cuts from the Escher Gang heads. The hat comes from Wild West Exodus.

Fairly straight forward conversion but I had a lot fun putting her together and painting her.

The eyepatch and lipstick were the hardest things to paint.

Next we have Lady Beatrix:

I was inspired by Ursula from The Little Mermaid. I have three daughters who are and were obsessed with Disney Princess type movies. Believe me I’ve tried and tried to get them into Star Wars. The Youngest does like SW but still prefers to watch Snow White over The Empire Strikes Back. What-the-actual-shit???

Oh and sorry about the finger but I had to tilt her so you could see her face properly.

Crazy is an understatement for this wild woman. She once ran the Box Herder Saloon in Coffin Wood County but was caught eating patrons she had killed in the galley. She lead a wild gang of warriors in the BadLands for many years but after never ending wars with the War Mongers, in particular the Techno Barbarians, she retired, killed her gang and ate them all. She went back to Coffin Wood looking for work and met Doc, the leader of the Bad Gang called The Mad March Hares. After so many years in the wild and eating, mostly, human flesh, her skin has turned a sickening pale green.

Again, a fairly easy conversion although getting the arms to fit was a bit tricky. The body comes from Malifaux and is actually a males body but mehh it works.

 

The next two ladies are a little spesh because well they are dedicated to two of my favourite lady bloggers… Ignitedmoth and Cupcakesandmachetes. 

– Please note that the descriptions of the characters are completely made up and are in no way meant as a true portrayal of Ignitedmoth’s or Cupcakes own personality… I hope hahaha. – 

 

Maggie Machete and Ignited Ingrid are twin sisters and are both as crazy as each other. Their favourite hobby is, would you believe, reading but killing is a very close second. They kill for money only and have a strict “No Kids” policy.

Maggie is the more sensible twin but has been known to drink the blood of her fallen enemies. She was trained in the art of the blade by the Blade Master Shi Yo Rohan.

Ingrid was born angry and is always looking for trouble. Her sister often has to subdue her. She is partial to the drink but has a very steady hand when it comes to shooting. Don’t piss this girl off.

Maggie Machete:

Top pic is a bit blurry in the face but i think you can still see what is going on. There’s a scar and theres eyeliner make up and a big black fringe. Bloody love that bowler hat.

Maggie looks a little Inquisitor-ish.

She was the most fun to put together and I think it’s all down to that bowler hat.

Ignited Ingrid:

I went for fairly drab colours for most of her clothing because I wanted the hair, gold and red to really pop. I also feel she’s got a bit of a Native American about her so the colours could be the hydes of wild animals.

Her hair is a bit cartoony but I think it rocks! I like the bling of her rifle too.

I like her stance. I feel like she has either just shot someone or is about to.

 

So there you have it, my submission for Womens History Month.
