So technically it’s 1 hour and 29 minutes into April but hey I’m a rule breaker not a rule maker!
I was going to build/paint a Tank Girl mini for Alex’s FEMbruary challenge and I didn’t think I’d make it in time for Womens History Month but hey presto here we are.
I wasn’t a big fan of the Tank Girl movie and I have never read a Tank Girl Comic but the artwork and imagery for both is awesome.
Here are just some of the cool images from the movie and comic books.
I love the mix of stereotypical girly girl mixed in with hard core badass and pop culture.
PLUS I had a bit of a thing for Gwen Steffani (Who reminds me of Tank Girl) when No Doubt first came out with “I’m just a girl”
I decided to go for a bit of a diorama for this one.
I call the piece “Up yours”
It’s very small but can you see the pack of Molboros strapped to the helmet?
Shes far from perfect but I’m happy with her and her little setting.
Cheers
IRO
Some little details to look out for:
- Two (red white blue) Roundels. One on the Duffle Bag and one on her top.
- Ann Arbor Argus written on her Duffle Bag. This is a shout out to those of you from Michigan.
- “No Sleep Til Brooklyn” Sign. Cool song and a call lyric so why not? Haha.
- She’s giving the bird.
- Dagger and arro in the back of her helmet. Just like from some of the Comic images.
- Pack of Malboro’s strapped to her helmet.
- Anarchy symbol on the crate.
- “Charlie Don’t Surf” written on the car door.
- Aboriginal flag on her Duffle Bag.
- Her makeup.
The whole diorama was fun and challenging to make and Tank Girl was particullarly tricky to paint.
I hope you like it.
Cheers

Nice rendition of a pop comic icon, IRO. You might be amused by “Things to do in a tank” https://notquitemechanised.wordpress.com/2016/11/12/things-to-do-in-a-tank/

If you don’t instantly recognise her as Tank Girl you need to work on you pop culture compass.

Pretty cool diorama. I remember the movie back in the 90’s I think? Lori Petty, also was in A League of their Own too. Impressed with this. 👍👍

Thanks Mark. I’ve never seen LOTO before but she was on Point Break (original) too and was good in that. She kind of faded into obscurity though.

Great work mate. I’ve never seen/read (?) anything to do with Tank Girl but didn’t she have a sidekick who was a kangaroo? Perhaps we can look forward to seeing him one day!

She did mate. A kangaroo boyfriend in fact. I added an Aboriginal flag to her duffle coat for the Aussie link.

I love this! I actually quite enjoyed the film (never read the comics), I liked her friend with the glasses (she was more my speed!). I re-watched this a few months back and it stood up pretty well.
P.S. I think we all fancied Gwen Steffani at some point.
Cheers roger.

Do you mean Jet Girl? That was our very own Naomi Watts. Whatever happened to Gwen?

That’s her, so many Aussie hottie’s these days!
Margot Robbie
Delta Goodgrem
Isla Fisher
Natalie Imbruglia
Olivia Newton John (showing my age now)
The Minogues
Madge Bishop
Dame Edna (showing how low my standards are now!)
As for Gwen, I think she gave up music to concentrate on her perfume carreer!! 😉
Cheers Roger.

Haha I had a suspicion that you did and would. Not sure if you saw it in the pix but there’s a “Michigan” reference on the duffle bag. Ann Arbor Argus. Do you know what that is, was?

I did see the reference but I had to look it up. Learn something new every day! That’s really cool. 🙂

Great Diorama! All the little details really make this pop! This perfectly captures the anarchic TG vibe. Was the Tank girl mini a kit bash?

Great work here mate – Loving all the little details, and your paint-lettering is getting better each time I see it!

Thanks man. For me, with lettering, it’s a lesson in patience hehe

You had me at “No Sleep till Brooklyn”! Great work getting this all together and adding all the those interesting tidbits. Lettering is a pain, I hope I can figure it out someday. The main thing seems to be, don’t treat the brush like a pen.

Thanks. With the writing I find writing it with a pencil or something first helps
