Dark Mechanicus – 001 “stalkers”

Good afternoon space cadets.

Last night I was in the mood for a little hobby and I’m not referring to bonsai trees or dwarf throwing. What I mean is I didn’t want to go crazy building things or get stuck into any hardcore painting. So I decided to do some touch up work on some Adeptus models I put together a while back.

It was quite fun but all I really did is highlight some metal and red sections of the models, give them all a dirty white painted face, a bit of blood spatter and then some white pigment on their bases.

Photographing them today got me thinking about a Dark Mechanicus Project I’d thought about doing some time ago.

So now that flame has been re-lit.

Heres are the first lot of minis for the old/new project. I’ll also be bringing in other models/characters you’ve seen before and, of course, building completely new ones. The plan is to blend together Necron, Adeptus Mechanicus and even a bit of nurgle to create a very dark looking War Band.

Im very much enjoying my Gypsy project though so have no fear, that will be taking priority.

For the time being though I hope you like what I have on offer for you today.

With names like that I can imagine roll call would be an absolute nightmare.

I remember a bloody awful teacher I had in year 11 who, in the very first lesson for the year, called the roll and said my name as Lucas. Me being a somewhat self righteous little prick didn’t answer yes. Why? Lucas isn’t my bleeding name that’s why. It’s LUKE! She stared at me over her glasses and repeated… Lucas?

I, very theatrically, looked behind me and around the room and said, “I think Lucas must be sick today Miss.” This pleases her no end and she marched me off to the principals office. Now the principal and I had an interesting relationship. He knew I wasn’t stupid but he also knew I was a clown. The teacher ranted about how I had refused to answer my name in roll call and that this was a very bad start to the year and bla bla bla. The principal asked me why I had refused to answer my name and I told him my name was Luke and not Lucas. The teacher, Red in the face by now, said Luke is short for Lucas. I still don’t believe this is quite right and said my name is Luke and it says so on my birth certificate. Then both teacher and I looked at the principal. He sighed and said, “His name is Luke now go back to class.” YES!!!! A small win but a win all the same. Needless to say that was the start of a beautiful relationship between me and the lovely English teacher.

Cheers

Lucas… Errrr Luke….. Errrrrr IRO

      1. The minis aren’t new, but the game itself is about using small kill-teams of 5-10 models and can be played in their “3 ways to play” format, so it’s set up for narrative campaigns and that sort of thing.

    1. I saw it. Depending on price points, I might be interested to scavenge for Necromunda. 😉

Mainly terrain. But decent MDF terrain can be found, for likely much cheaper. I also think an Orc team would be sweet in Necromunda. Why no Orcs, in Hive, GW? (Don’t answer, I am blissfully oblivious to 40k lore). Orcs could probably use the same stats as Goliaths quite easily.

  1. Oh, and Luke *can* be short for Lucas, just like Mary can be short for Maryanne or Rob *can* be short for Robert, or Roberto or Ellie *can* be short for Danielle, or “short” for Elle, or John/Jon *can* be short for Jo(h)nathon or Greg *can* be short for Gregory or Gregor (which can also be short for Gregory) or it can be it’s own thing, as can the rest of them.

In short, your English teacher sounds like a presumptive, pretentious dumbarse.

  3. They look very dark and sinister, I’m impressed. You could just imagine them relentlessly staling their prey across the battlefield….

At high school we did the register by numbers (each person hada number and you were meant to call them out in order. Supposedly it was quicker. Me being , that person used to add extra numbers on at the end so the teachers book looked like a scruffy mess. I always did it in a different voice so wan’t rumbled, aftera while others joined in too.

I was no better at college, a piece of paper was just passed round to sign it on. After it had passed me it usually hada few extra names on, other joined in on that too. The psychology teacher was highly strung with an occasional very bad temper so it was good fun as you didn’t know what reaction you get.

    Cheers,

    Pete.

      1. He was pretty unbalanced, when he was on form he was one of the best teachers I had but some times he went really off it. Shouting screaming- through a chair at someone once. He was trying to get a phd by studying violence at night time; sometimes his field work went wrong and he’d come in with black eyes… Gave me a monumental bollocking once for not doing me coursework well enough, I made it worse by acting dumb which probably wasn’t the best idea… college was fun times.

        Cheers,

        Pete.

      2. Reminds me of my metal teacher who would lose it and throw shit at us haha. Believe it or not he was called Mr Trip and he was a real trip. He ended up getting bashed by a student and we didn’t see either of them ever again. I went to the roughest school in the district. I could tell you many stories. I’m surprised I even survived the place haha.

      3. I wouldn’t say I was in the roughest High School in the States, but they were not easy either. You just reminded me of the time that I witnessed a fight (3rd one with the same kid, that year), and the other guy was ripping pieces of his hair out of his head. Then the Algebra Teacher/Wrestling Coach ran up and put them both in a head lock.
