Hmmm…
Where do I start?
Well let’s start with HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!
Its just me and my six year old home and she’s in bed so a quiet New Years for me. Perfect time to take some snaps and do a blog post while I sip down a few beers.
Right…
Last year was hectic. Well hang on, to be precise, the last quarter was hectic with real life and such. It was all good stuff just busy stuff. Some of you might remember that before that I was determined to finish my “swarm” (Tyranids and Genestealer) Project. Well, due to life, I was sidetracked BUT to stay sane during that manic period I did squeeze in a bit of painting here and there. Then, with a little more painting over the last couple of days, I fished this…
What the shit???? I hear you roar as one mighty mob haha.
The beast/elephant, or “Mûmak”, is part of the lord of the rings range from GW BUT as soon as I saw it on line I knew I wanted it to be an Ork “vehicle”, or more precisely, a vehicle for Warboss ScabRot.
So let’s see it carrying ScabRot and some of his cohorts.
It can be used by my German Orks and/or The Albino Ork army.
I had a lot of fun painting the big bastard of a thing but I had more fun building it and doing some small conversions.
The head armour was from an Exit sign I found at a work site, now no one will know how to get out of that place haha. Nah I was asked to remove it. Im not exactly sure what kind of material it is, some sort of flexible plastic, but I cut it up easily enough. It Worked a treat.
You might notice some decapitated heads are very IRO I feel haha. If you look closely there’s even an Ork head skewered onto one of the upright posts. Nasty Orks even turn against their own kind.
The poor Imperial Guard soldier on the ground (Just for fun let’s call him Private Leg-o-less so if you’re a fan of LOTR you’ll get the double joke there) was a bit of an afterthought but I’m glad I added him. I really like the raised had with a couple of missing fingers. I screwed up his face a bit but meh it’s passable and, obviously, it’s all about the Elephant not a dying bloody guardsman.
The Grot Driver was a fun little addition and the chain was from a necklace I found in the bathroom sshhh. He’s also the only mini permanently stuck to the beast. Note: The chain is wrapped around the horns and connect to a stikk grenade.
The elephant was simpler to paint than I thought and I spent more of my time on the tusks than the hide.
It feels good to be back to some painting. I’ll always prefer building but painting really does bring my little mad creations to life.
Just in case you haven’t had enough here are some more photos.
This week I’ve been listening to…
The Mandalorian Soundtrack (Chapters 1 – 8) by Ludwig Goransson. Amazing.
Heres the theme
If you like cowboy movies and science fiction you’ll love The Mandalorian.
Cheers

Excellent stuff IRO! Here’s hoping to see plenty more from you in 2020! By my reckoning, as I write I’m still in 2019 while you’re in 2020 – I’ll try me best to catch up! 🙂

Holy shit dude, that’s amazing. I really love the conversion of the elephant, and Leg-Less is a hoot. You really put a lot of Easter eggs into your work – and its really great to see you painting again. I know its tough with all you have going – hell, I need to catch up on the FOTW (and I will – and thanks for the West Point shout out in November!)
Best wishes to you and yours for a Blessed New Year! And lots of repeat profitable business!

Thanks pal. We finished the last chapter of the post apoc saga and we both felt a pang of sadness over it haha. However, there are some loose plans for a new story for this year.

Great model mate and so, so IRO. Excellent photos too which really capture the mood and good to see you back posting. Hope you are managing to avoid all the fires which continue to make headlines over here. As for being in with your six year old I reckon this has more to do with the fact that nobody in their right mind would invite you to a party! Will check out the link once I have read your other post. 😊

I’m glad you like it mate, it was fun to build and paint. Thankfully we are miles away from the fires but there was a thick smoke smog over our way for many days which just tells you how intense the fires are. At one point they were as big as all of England. Crazy stuff. A client of mine has a son holidaying in a place called Mallacoota and he and his sons had to be literally shipped away to a safe area on a small naval vessel. Sadly there has been some loss of life but nowhere near as much as black Saturday back in 2009. They were closer to where I was living at the time.

Boom, drops the mike and walks off. Just thought you’d pull this out the bag and drop it on us as an end of year surprise 😁. Awesome work up to your normal standard. Painting it for us was the icing on the cake. 👍

Brilliant start to 2020 mate I just love the detail so much to look at and I can see why you had to have that elephant, no one else has said so I will ,it must have been a mammoth tusk oh I mean task, sorry. I trust you and the family have a great one to. On the fire subject, my sisters and I have a house in Mallacoota and two of them and there daughters went down there after Xmas with us and only got out in time before they closed the road which was lucky, maybe I should have said, had a house, we will just have to wait and see.
