So what’s on for 2020?

G’day gang,

Happy New Year.

Didnyou celebrate? Did you get a little wild, freaky?

I kinda did haha. Spent it on my own as the wife was working, two daughters were out and one was asleep by 8:30pm.

This was my night in pictures and a video.

Had a solo game which was more fun than I thought actually. My next post will be the battle report of said game.

Ok, onto what 2020 holds for me as far as our beloved hobby goes.

Also, I’d love to hear what you’ve all got planned for 2020 as far as the hobby goes? By all means feel free to tell me about your investment plans or that bathroom you want to tile and I promise to feign interest haha.

For me, like every year, I have just over a gazillion projects I will keep chipping away at here and there and I’d really, really like to finish at least one of them but we will see how I go I guess. I’m not promising anything.

As mentioned recently I’m going to simply keep following the creative rainbow haha but, much like Wudugast, I’ll be setting myself monthly goals. If I don’t nail them so be it but at least it’ll, hopefully, give me some sort of direction. I’ll list my monthly hobby goals for January at the end of this post.

Here is the list of projects I’ll be tackling in 2020. I’ll give the title with a brief description.

Some of the projects you’ll know or remember and others you’ll shake your head and smile and think “He’s nuts”. Haha

The Stouthearted 31st Praetorian Guard.

This has to be one of my favourite projects. Long had I wanted to build and paint a (24th foot-esque) army and last year I made a really good start. I’m pretty sure the HQ is all done now but I’ll be adding more line infantry plus a veteran squad (as in old school lead minis from the 90’s). There will be a Valkyrie (plane) and a Chimera (apc) too. A small scouting squad, an Ogryn squad AND some old school artillery too will all be joining the stouthearted in 2020.

Blud Lettas (Albino Orks)

I love me some Orks so there is a lot more to come for this army in 2020. Most notably a “Flashgitz/Pirate” contingent. You’ve seen my big kitbashed land-ship called Der Red Orktober recently but there is a nice pirate crew coming as well. You’ve also just seen the giant elephant. I want to get some trukks done, Kommandos and some killa Kanz.

The Störenfried (German Ork Army)

While we are on Orks let’s talk the German version. I managed to paint half a dozen of my German orks last year and also a couple of planes and two motorbikes. Not bad but there’s a shit load more to come. More planes, tanks, troops and canons. I’m really loving the theme. I just wish the company maxmini had of been successful in their kickstarter campaign for The Green Alliance. Basically Orks in a US army theme. Sigh…

The 52nd Tallarn Desert Raiders

I’ve built most of this army but just need to knock out a couple more vehicles. This was the army that had the motorbikes and apc’s. I don’t blame you if you don’t remember so here’s a cheeky link…

No paint on any of the models yet but I hope to make a start this year.

Tyranids and Genestealers. This is a fairly big army with lots of models and I still need to build more. Painting will be a huge task but I am looking forward to it.

I don’t expect you to remember this one but it’s a project that combines old fantasy models with 40k ones. I really, really like that look. Here’s one of the models from the project.

There’s three main factions for this project. The Solar Mithras (Blue), The Red Weed (Red) and The Tainted (Green). I very much enjoyed building and painting for this project and look forward to getting back to it.

The Black Plague

Some of my favourite conversions are in this project which saw me fuse flesh with mechanics which resulted in some nightmarish miniatures.

Here are a couple of snaps and a video of some of my faves from the project.

Nasty looking things… so cool haha.

I “think” I’m done building although I do have one HUGE Miniature (I love that oxymoron) in mind to round off the project. Might even make a start on that soon-ish.

The Mighty 77th Cadian Battalion

Stereotypical soldiers. I haven’t touched this project in years and had thought it was done buuuuut I’ll be adding to it. Artillery, troops, tanks, sentinels and maybe a Valkyrie.

The 701st Royal BannaRoff

Much like the red coated Praetorian Guard I really dig the aesthetic of this army. Napoleonic era meets 40k. Still several models to paint but then it’s done. I might even try to get this one done in the first quarter of this year.

The Purge Cardinals (Space Marines)

Not much more to go this project either as it’s only a small one.

Tau army

Ive been wanting to start a proper Tau army for ages. I now have all the kits I need and just need to get cracking. The small Tau force o have already will be absorbed into the new army. For a change I’ll be making the kits as is, as in no conversions. However the standout for this army will, hopefully, be the dynamic paint job I’m going to attempt. The best way I can describe the look I will be going for is a monochromatic shattered glass pattern.

Blood Rain Traitor Guard

Another project I’m looking forward to getting back to is my traitor guard. This project already has a lot of troops but there are more to come plus some cavalry and more vehicles.

La Carnival Macabre (Gypsies)

I won’t be adding any more to this project but there are still quite a few minis to paint.

I’m especially looking forward to painting this guy.

Techno Barbarians

This project is shaping up to be quite a big one. Lots of wild, maniacal troops and some mad max styled vehicles. Lots to build, paint but lots of fun to be had. I’ll be absorbing the Warcry Warbands into this project too.

Very small project with only two warbands designed for small skirmish games but it can all be absorbed into other armies too like Prae Guard or BannaRoff.

Medieval Tale

Wow, I haven’t touched this project since December 2018… Where does the time go? It’s crazy. Anyway I have soooooooo many minis to paint for this project it’s actually rather daunting haha but I am still pumped for it.

Blood Reapers

Evil, cannibalistic, Barbarian warriors. A huge horde of models and a couple of monsters as well.

Saint Kristos Pirate Island

HUuuuuge project and I’ve pointed a total of three models for it haha. This will be my magnum opus.

Imperial Fists

Really want to make a start, at least, on this project. Big Yellow Space Marines basically haha.

Ok they’re the main ones one the long list but other smaller ones are:

* Bell Cult

* SkyRaiders

* Ash Waste Nomads

* Tom O Bedlam (Haven’t even started this one) It’s going to be quite mad.

* New Chaos Space Marine Warband
So, as you can see, a lot to think about. I’m sure I’m missing some too haha. I love it!!!

Ok, now here are my hobby goals for January. Some of you will be pleased to see that it’s all about painting.

1. Finish my best mate Warrens bday present. This one is a bit hush hush as Big Waz has been known to read my blog posts from time to time. Once I’ve handed him his present I will do a post on it. I think you’ll be surprised by it. The deadline is January 11th (We share the same birthday).

2. Paint some German Orks

3. Paint some Flash Gitz (Pirate Orks)

4. Paint some Ork Kommandos

Tell me what your hobby plans are gang?

  1. Dude, you should aim higher – clearly you need more projects…nah, just kidding, this is a lot!

I would not even remember that many projects – and while I should set a bunch of goals (and likely will) – I’ll have enough to do finishing the France 1940 project – then on to more sci-fi. I’m (basically retired now) flush with things to do and not enough time for a job. BUT, I know we’ll keep on top of each other’s work (not on top of each other, that’s Waz’s present, no??

And at the current rate of projects, you’ll get to the one’s I sent ya by retirement! Seriously, just keep bringing forth your madness – it is inspiring!

BTW Happy New Year – I still have 45 minutes left in 2019!

    1. Hahaha it is crazy isn’t it. The models you gave me are sitting on my desk so that every time I sit down I see them and it reminds me. I am looking forward to painting them but not exactly sure what project I can incorporate them in to? Not that I have to but I think it’s be cool to make them a part of something.

  3. Happy New Year to you, too, mate. Looks like you had a bit of fun there playing against yourself. Or with yourself. Hobby plans for me will be probably going lighter and giving the monthly challenges a break, once I start painting again. Tabula Rasa would be nice. I dunno for now, though…

    1. Haha I had a lot of fun actually. I was laughing at myself a lot because I was talking to myself a lot. Haha. One day in 2020 we should meet man and you can pass on all your knowledge about the hobby and gaming. Then we can dual.

      1. Yeah .. I was being a bit …. and got side tracked. Let’s hope I do more podcasts this year. it is a lot of effort and I guess that is why I only did 3 last year, and then I forget how to use the technology…lol. let’s see. I will come to you for advice😉

  4. So, in between everything else going on on New Year’s Eve, it appears you managed to eat some greens – bet your mum is so proud of you! If I were you, I’d put “eat some green” in your January to do list, maybe next to the “drink 31 gallons of beer” that you appear to have missed out as well! 😉 And I’m expecting to see Red Orktober painted some time in 2020! As for myself, I’ll really try to paint one half decent mini in 2020, but no promises!

  5. Happy New Year to you to mate. Am a little behind on reading some blog posts on account of a hangover which wrote off a chunk of the day! Fortunately a couple of glasses of wine sorted things out so now I am back on track. Glad to see you have a lot planned for 2020 as it means we can keep some banter going. This year I’m going to let you get the better of it occassionally so you don’t sulk and go all moody on me 😉. Seriously looking forward to seeing the continuation of your ongoing projects and intrigued by what you have planned for Big Waz. Will give some thought to my own plans over the coming days and probably include a summary in a future post.

    1. Haha they do say the best remedy for a hangover is more alcohol. I think it’s true but I also require a big greasy full English brekkie. Yeah lots planned and I’m hoping my monthly goals will keep me driven to finish some. I might do a little work on Big Waz’s present this evening.

  6. We’re all most impressed at your ambition. Good to see some of those projects making a reappearance that I well remember. Of course the ongoing Stouthearted 31st gets a big cheer from me. 🙂

As for me, I’m still working out what to do over the year but I’m well into two kits already…

  7. Good luck for 2020 mate. I am most looking forward to seeing your shadowguard project…for myself I am planning to paint an Eldar army for 2nd ed 40K, a High Elf Army for 5th ed Warhammer Fantasy, and a few odds and sods too, as well as make a serious dent in a WWII Eastern Front project.

  8. Jebus buddy. I’m not sure you have enough on your plate. Perhaps you should also offer to raise someone else’s kids to really challenge yourself haha.
My goals are to continue to chip away at my various armies. The Silvertop Clan Dwarves will be ‘almost finished’ by the end of the year, at least the rank and file will be. The herd of Khazbar the Magnificent will get some painted Minotaur reinforcements. I’ll continue the off knight from my Brets and my Shadow Sentinels space marine chapter. I may even perhaps, start to assemble the Empire army I picked up from one my club mates. Oh and get in some games of course.

  9. Big year coming up mate, busy busy boy! I have to say I just love the skull pants I must get a pair to give me inspiration when doing my fantasy dios ,although I’ll pass on doing those moves ,Ha Ha !!!

  10. Wow.. That’s a lot of projects! But I can certainly understand, when you’ve been in the hobby for a couple of years, you’re bound to have so many ideas/started projects that you’re most likely never going to finish then all! Of course, we have fun trying!

I’m glad to hear that there are painted models incoming. Your conversions are top-notch, but an unpainted model is still an unfinished model in my books.

Anyway, looking forward to seeing what you get done in 2020! (and keeping my fingers crossed for some techno barbarians..)

    1. Thanks man. You’re right an unfinished model but I just looooove converting and building more than painting. However I’m on a bit of a wave with the painting at present so let’s see what I can do.

      1. Heh, I think it’s the same with me, I do prefer the modeling side, as painting can be a bit of a chore, especially the start. But as I also love finishing paintjobs, I’ve settled on alternating between building and painting.
