It’s that time of year again when the Fembruary Challenge from https://leadballoony.com is upon us. To be honest I’ve been thinking about it, or rather what I’ll do, since about September of 2020.
I don’t really take part in challenges but I never miss the Fembruary one. 1. It’s all about celebrating female miniatures. 2. It challenges me to come up with something fun and unique.
I urge all and any of you to get involved. It’s always fun to see Alex’s post when he gathers up everyone’s individual submissions to see what everyone has done.
Some of you may recall that for 2019 and 2020 I did dioramas based on my three daughters in a zombie apocalypse world. In 2019 they were on top of a VW beetle desperately holding off a zombie attack. In 2020 the time line had moved on and they were now well versed in fighting zombies and had taken to capturing the undead for science experiments hehe. In 2021 it’s been about five years and the girls, along with their Dad (me), have found some semblance of peace in the form of a treehouse. I’ve decided that this year I will do a series of Work In Progress posts as I’ve been greatly inspired by TIMs diorama progress posts.
The basic plan is to use an actual tree branch as the tree, build a treehouse on top of it. For the base I want to include a veggie patch, animals, work shed or space and a jeep.
The photos below show my progress so far.

So that’s it for now folks. Like with the other submissions over the years I’m thoroughly enjoying myself on this project. It’s the biggest and most challenging diorama to date for me. I’m hoping that it will tell a story by means of lots of little details.
Cheers
IRO
Looking good so far! 🙂 I think the branch you’ve painted to look like a tree looks more realistic than a real tree!

Looking good so far. Fembruary never really enters my mind, funny how that works for one, but not another. Truly, I have too much on my desk right now, but maybe I’ll repaint the old “Lady of the Lake” mini from GW, but an elaborate diorama is just too much for this challenge 😉

Sounds good mate. It can be anything you want really, as long a a female is involved. Glad you like what I’ve done so far.

The diorama looks off to a good start! I love the way that the terrain is started and this gives me a few ideas for sure.

Cracking start IRO, the struts look perfect and add a sense of realism, love that it’s a progression from previous dio’s. Will there be an outhouse on the platform ? as no one want’s to be caught short by Zeds !

Haha it’s funny you say that because I was just thinking about an outside dunny for it

This one looks like it is going to be exciting and as Dave said I like the idea of keeping the theme going. I think the supports you have added are spot on. They make it more realistic for sure. Looking forward to the next post already. 🙂

Cheers mate and thanks for the ideas of using an actual branch for the tree. Worked out well.

Lookin’ good dude – this is off to a great start. I’m enjoying the way you’re keeping the story progressing. Of course, knowing you, at some point you’ll revert to type and cover this peaceful treehouse with some poor bastard’s entrails but that’s all good too 😀
Funnily enough I’m also particularly excited about Fembruary this year. It’s one of those challenges that I try to never miss (even if it is bloody hard to spell!) but this year I too have big plans. Looking forward to the next instalment mate. 🙂

Oh cool man, I look forward to seeing what you offer up. Hard to spell and bloody hard to say as well for me haha.

Looking good so far, so how does this work, being called Fembruary, I’d assume you had to build it in February? (this could be wrong though), it’s still January of here in the UK 😉
What are the rules, as I couldn’t find them on the Leadballoony site?
Cheers Roger.

Basically build and/or paint something and do a post on it in February and be sure to link Leadballoony so that he can add it to his final post on the whole thing. It can be pretty much anything you want as long as it’s of the female variety. Type “fembruary” into his little search thing or just type it into WordPress search thingy.

Hmmm, might try and kill two birds with one stone here, and paint up my Elvira figure for this as well as Dave Stones “Paint what you’ve already got challenge”.
Thanks Mate, Cheers Roger.

Very creative, mate! I’m looking forward to how this one comes together. And thanks for reminding me about Fembruary. I wasn’t painting at all this time last year, but I want to make sure I get something done for this year.

Just your progress post has me pumped to see what you create! Tree houses (both big and miniature) are so much fun. I had one as a kid, it was great. Even when wasps built a nest in my treasure chest and then chased me until I fell off the ladder and sprained my arm.

Ohhh nooooo haha. I’ve always liked treehouses too but never had one. I had a cubby but always dreamed of a big tree house. I’m excited to do and show more on this project.

I agree with everyone else. This is not only off to a great start but it sounds like a pretty ambitious concept! It is great to see you pushing your skills and I’m excited to see how the diorama develops 🙂

I love everything about this – and I know that you will bring it to a great conclusion. I love Alex’s Fembruary but won’t be in it unless I get done my Conquistadores – which might happen – or not – hard to say. Still, I hope there’s a few practice target zombies hanging around the tree.
