CoffinWood part 4 – more painted buildings

Hello all

I managed to paint one more building and make a good start on another.

I went with brighter colours. From my research I read that, even though architecture was simple, some business pended would try and make their building stand out with a fresh brighter lick of paint.

I released episode 55 of Imperial Rebel Ork Podcast yesterday and on it I had a casual chat as I painted this next one. The house of the unholy. I still have more to do but I thought I’d share an image of how it’s progressing. It’s a white base coat but with light/mid grey to highlight edges, door and window frames. It worked better than I hoped actually.

After the one above I have another house to paint and then that’s it for MDF buildings but I do have my eye on a couple of other MDF kits now haha. So we could see more in CoffinWood. I’m also still, anxiously, waiting for 3D printed buildings to arrive from OTP. Can’t wait for those.

It’s pouring with rain here but I have the whole weekend off so I’m hoping to watch a couple more Western Movies.

    1. Haha The funny thing is my seven year old keeps thinking it’s a salon. So there you go mate, you’re as clever as my seven year old haha. I’ve realized it’s only a very small saloon so I might go for a bigger one as well and one of the scenarios could be A Pub Battle or something haha.

    1. Last night I ended up watching Leon, my all time favourite movie but this time it was the Directors cut. I’ve never seen that version and it’s so much better. So yeah not a western but I just had to tell someone haha. I’m going to watch the rest of The Quick and the Dead today though. Maybe The Professionals as well.

      1. I love The Quick and the Dead. I’m long overdue for a rewatch of that. My uncle encouraged my love of Clint Eastwood and my adopted parents (not really adopted but that’s it’s own story) watched John Wayne movies with me frequently. Not a western but for the record, I LOVE Crocodile Dundee. HAHAHA. 😀

    Great look of how buildings were washed more than painted, plus how they weathered. Superb!

    Looking forward to seeing the whole town! And the game of course!

  12. Excellent work!
    I really need to watch more Westerns. My dad loves them but for some reason it’s a genre I never really explored. I think the only ones I’ve even seen are The Magnificent Seven (the remake), Blazing Saddles, The Quick and the Dead, and Django Unchained. What ones would you suggest to a newbie to the genre? 🙂

      1. All great ones. I’d probably also add Tombstone, 3:10 to Yuma, The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, and the Deadwood TV series. Not a ‘historical Western’, but No Country for Old Men is also a great movie in the same vein.

      3. I’m not sure how many times I’ve watched it now, but it’s just amazing. The Road is good too, but so damned sad. I somehow made it through the audiobook of that one, but not was tough.

      5. I’ve watched The Road a few times, and would agree. Though with know there are a good number of people who don’t like sad movies, so I’m reluctant to sometimes recommend that one.

        I checked this afternoon and it looks pretty much identical to TTcombat.

        What’s MDF like? Does it need Superglue and is it fairly solid once built? I was thinking (not 100% planned) of adding some MDF buildings to my scenery collection for my Fallout games. Since I’m I’m scratch building unique buildings and ruins, I’d like to add some cheap scenery kits to mix up the battlefield.

      2. Definitely worth getting a kit and having a go man. I’ve been surprised by how cool they are actually. My Wild West kits are perfect for the setting but if you want something more sci fi just add/glue on bits and pieces from other sci fi kits or even bits and bobs from around the house. I used superglue but I pretty much use superglue on everything

      3. Superglue is a good call. I think I used wood or PVA glue, which I’m not crazy about because of the long set time. I should definitely give superglue a try.

      5. Just looked at some of their kits, damn they are insanely cheap! I forgot what a good deal mdf can be. I’m not crazy about working with it, but for Western buildings, sure can’t go wrong.
