Every year Alex from Leadballoony runs the Fembruary challenge but this year he’s taking a bit of a break. However he still encouraged everyone to get involved and hopefully, one day, we won’t even need to make it a “thing”, it’ll just be!
For the four years that Fembruary has been aroundI’ve done a little diorama and for the last three years they’ve been based on my three daughters. This year however I wanted to break that trend and go with something very different.
First of all let’s talk scale. In more recent times I’ve been enjoying larger scale models. I haven’t painted a great deal but the Ork Warboss called BludKleeva was one that I thoroughly enjoyed.
Anyway onto my Fembruary offering for 2022.
I’m calling the piece “Ugly on the inside”

She was a lot of fun to paint and it marked the first time I’ve used a proper wet palette. It’s changed my life!
Cheers

That is awesome dude!! What sort of scale is that & where does it come from? It’s very cool 👍👍

1/24 and all I can say is that I found it on eBay haha. I got it just after Fembruary 2021. Glad you like it man

A cracking piece IRO but you’ve left out too much from your narrative. What scale is it? Is it a kit or a conversion? In any event it’s a classic.

Hehe yeah I was rushing the post because I had some sausages in the pan. 1/24 scale. Not converted at all. I’m pleased you like her matey

You’ve done an excellent job on the skin tones, and all the little details you’ve got in there adds to the effect of the piece Luke.

Looks just great! The eyes are especially haunting.

Thanks DB. It’s funny because the eyes were the easiest thing about this paint job but I quite like them too.

Love it! ❤
I was really excited to check out these images over here on your blog since they already looked fantastic when I saw them on Instagram but I can see so many more details when I have it pulled up on my laptop instead of my little phone. Excellent work, and I love the color choices you made.

Thanks very much Mrs Moth. Maybe the hair was subconsciously inspired by some of your art. I don’t usually work with those sorts of colours but I’m glad I did. I’m particularly happy with the blue flowers.

Yeah, the blue flowers were definitely a nice touch.

My goodness that looks amazing. What scale is this? I am amazed at any scale, but if this is as small as she looks then I truly to doff my cap to you!

Hehe thanks man. It’s actually 1/24 scale so a little bigger than usual. She was so much fun to paint

Now that is a creepy looking bust! Really nice job painting her up and I’m curious where she will be displayed. Surely front and center in your house for everyone to see 😀 On a more serious note, I’m really glad that you tried out a wet palette. I find they’re extremely helpful for painting at a high standard and I don’t think there’s any going back once you’ve tried one 🙂

Thank you sir. I loved the wet palette and yep, there’s no going back to my old ways now.

Really creepy, I love the contrast between the face and the mask and needless to say both faces are terrific. A cracking addition to the proud history of IRO Fembruary submissions.

Truly a work of art as others have said here. What about the wet palette was different for you?
LikeLiked by 3 people
Thank you sir. Well 1 it keeps everything wet and fresh for a lot longer and 2 it’s easier to blend/mix etc. Have you got one? A homemade one is easy enough to do but I fancied a tidy little packaged one. I love it. It’s changed my life haha

No, I have plastic palettes that I refresh with thinner. Glad it’s helped you – and I don’t seem to have a problem with my paints drying up as I just add thinner or redrop the paints in another palette well.

Ah because you use oil paints
I use acrylics so this wet palette has changed my world man

Nope, I’m all acrylics 99% of the time. Hate the cleanup associated with oils. I blend in the wells.
