Rorke’s Drift Part 31 – 110 Zulus complete

I have 110 Zulus completed including their individual bases and the 10 man movement trays.

Not quite thousands of em but a good lot. I have another 170 to do BUT I’ll also be acquiring even more to reach 400. Why? Well two reasons. The first, and most obvious reason, is that I’m clearly a little nuts. The second reason is that I’d like to extend the Rorke’s Drift project so I can play a battle/game of Isandlwana as well.

If you’re a little unclear what the battle of Isandlwana was I’d suggest watching a few docos on YouTube, watching the movie Zulu Dawn (nowhere near as good as Zulu but worth a watch) and reading all about the battle here –

Basically though it was a huge massacre for the British who greatly underestimated their Zulu foe.

400 Zulu warriors is the new target so I can play both Isandlwana and Rorke’s Drift.

Yes I could work with less Zulus and just reuse or respawn fallen warriors but that wouldn’t tickle my fancy at all. I want to see hordes of Zulus engulfing the British encampment at Isandlwana in the form of the horns of the bull. I want to see swarms of Zulu warriors charging mealie bags and busting into the hospital at Rorke’s Drift. I won’t settle for anything less hehe.

Like I did last year, I’d like to put it out there that if anyone would like to help me paint these warriors please get in touch here – gardensbytheminute@gmail.com. I will pay for postage both ways and give you a rough idea on colours but as you can see they’re pretty straightforward. You can paint one, five, ten, fifty haha whatever you want really.

Cheers

IRO

  1. 110 complete so far is a good number Luke, and I applaud you wanting so many to represent the battle accurately. As for the painting I need to look at a few things and will let you know.

    1. Thanks mate. The more Zulus the better but 400 will do for now hehe. I’m sure in years to come I’ll add more. You can never have enough Zulus of Orks I believe. No worries mate Re painting some Zulus. It’s a big ask but I kind of get a buzz out of having Zulus painted by others from around the globe and locally.

  2. Good luck in this endeavour man. Great that you want to re enact this battle. The Zulu were underestimated by the English as well as the Boers back in the day, many battles taking place to draw inspiration from.

  3. 400!?! That is going to be seriously impressive when you get them done. I’m glad you’re making progress on this ambitious project and I hope you find plenty of volunteers. With how slow I paint, I don’t think it’d be worth the shipping fees to send me a couple to work on as fun as they would be to work on.

  4. 400+? Madness! But so cool! What a spectacle taht will be, all arrayed on the table.

Im so behind in all my projects I don’t dare offer to help. I hope some chaps take you up though, and add to the horde.

  5. Very inspiring Luke – though I’m late to the party (been wrapped up getting my stuff painted for conventions). Open to painting a few for you once my convention schedule (and golf) lightens up this summer.

  6. Very cool mate! I’d love it if I could help, but I’ve got literally hundreds of Zombies I need to work through, let alone some of the other projects! If you’re still working on them when I get some extended time off work, however…
